(And apparently I need to note that my kids eat pretty damn good most of the time, but their diets are not always 100% pure and healthy! So you'll see a little bit of everything in these posts, including the days that food prep just wasn't quite possible! Always keeping it real!)
A favorite new breakfast item lately has been buttered bread, toasted, spread with ricotta cheese, drizzled with honey and sea salt. Y'all. This is good. I've been making a piece for myself and then make two to three slices for the quads and just cut them up into bite sized pieces. This morning they had the ricotta toast with apples, strawberries and chocolate donut holes.
For those who have asked, the plates pictured are the Boon Saucer Edgeless Stayput Divider plates and you can purchase them on Amazon here. We love these plates and they help me portion out food, they're easy for the babies to eat from and they are a bit more difficult to tip over and dump out (but they aren't suction plates). They've held up great in the dishwasher and are sold in sets of three, we have 12 plates!
For morning snack, they usually get animal cookies or graham crackers in the play room. Today's lunch was Chick-Fil-A and the quads split a 12-count nugget meal with large fries as well as cheese and fruit.
For snack, they get their Munchkin snack catchers and whatever assortment of edibles I choose to put in there. This particular afternoon, they munched on a mix of whole grain goldfish, pretzel goldfish and a few M&Ms.
Tonight's dinner was pretty yummy. I kept things simple and made roasted some carrots (with sea salt and rosemary), steamed broccoli, lemon garlic chicken (cooked on the stovetop) along with pan fried potatoes and blackberries. The babies are always eating what we eat for dinner and typically the husband and I sit at their quad table with them and enjoy our meal together as a family.
And that's a day in meals! I'll plan to publish new posts as I'm able to snag photos of the food before it gets devoured. Let me know what you think of the new series and what some of your tyke's favorite bites are!
I have said it before and I say it again.....I have never seen such a great menu for babies! I have watched you cook for them and continue to be so imptessed ! From organic homemade baby food to regular meals......you are an amazing cook!
ReplyDeleteThe toast sounds good! You're very creative with their food and it looks pleasing too. I'm so amazed that you prepare so many meals & snacks ~ I think I'd need a LOT of B-12. :)

Creative? Good menu? You do not feed your children healthy, nutritious meals from the looks of it. Off the bat you mention animal crackers, fast food, graham crackers, pretzels, m&m's, and donuts. Those processed, unhealthy foods are going directly into your toddlers... and it cannot be good for them. Why not fruits, veggies, dairy, grains, protein, etc? I have 2-year-old twins and they eat salmon, ground turkey, fruits, vegetables, cheese, granola, and yogurt. At the end of the day I am happy about what I put in their mouths and feel good about it also.
ReplyDeleteWell, my goodness. I'm glad you feel capable of judging my toddlers' entire diets by the likes of one blog post! I do feed them all those exact same things as well. In fact, salmon is in the next Tyke Bites post. But not every day is a perfectly balanced menu for reasons I don't even need to explain here.
DeleteAnd please do not attack the comments of my other blog readers. That's just bad manners. If you don't agree with what's here, you can visit another blog that's focused on something more to your liking.
Judgmental much? Amber feeds her kids extremely well and has from the beginning. One days worth of food is hardly enough to make that judgement. We all have different parenting choices and expectations, but it sure would be nice if we could support each other instead of tearing each other down... I'm so happy you feed your children a perfect menu! Bless your heart!
DeleteEvery parent does things differently and everyone has different definitions of the word healthy. I for one am very impressed by the vast range of food Amber makes for her children. She does a great job of VARIETY. They are children. Lord help me, I will never be the mother that denies her children a cupcake at a birthday party or a fun treat once in awhile. Also, you have twins (as do I). An all organic/no preservative diet is very expensive and there is a vast difference between paying for such diet for a family of 4 vs 6. All the food you suggested that she feed them was included in their meals today, but there was also "fun" things in sensible portions. We may not agree with everyone's choices, but that does not give you the right to shame another mother who is doing a wonderful job with 4, 2 year olds. People who live in glass houses...
DeleteAmber, I admire you and hopefully I can be half as good as a mom for my quads as you are! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAnyone who has been reading your blog for a while knows how well you feed your family. Just look at your recipes or all the other dinner mentions in other posts! I think it's great and am always curious and like getting ideas for feeding my own kids and soon to be toddler.
ReplyDeleteSo you have four toddlers and you are cooking gourmet - color me impressed! My twins are three and I'm waiting for them to turn into a chicken nugget.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks! But don't be fooled - we eat our fair share of chicken nuggets around here!!
DeleteThanks for the ricotta toast idea. My boys are gobbling it up as I type!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!!
