Holiday Market

Last week, I had the pleasure of being a fill-in "date" for my friend Lisa to attend the 2010 Junior League Holiday Market. As always, we make the most of any of these types of occasions and had dinner and wine beforehand, dressed up to shop the market aisles, sipped on cocktails, then spent the wee hours of the night watching Leno and reality TV show reruns (while Lisa whipped up a sweet potato pie for her office the following morning).

We don't really sit still. Like, ever.

Lisa and her adorable rescue dog, Chuck.

Me and Chuck, who looks a little ghostly in this photo!
Ready to shop!

The Christmas Market was full of everything creative, crafty, festive and shiny. Booth after booth featured products like wine-o-ritas (margarita-esque frozen drinks made with vino... the peach bellini was yummy!) to overly embellished picture frames and holiday decorations.

Though we frequented the cocktails, there was also a potato bar set up with gold and sweet potatoes and all the toppings you could think of - including a steaming pan of bacon. I mixed my sweet potatoes with a light sprinkling of blue cheese and some brown sugar. I know it sounds super weird, but it was super good!

We also love a good bargain, and found several of them at the Christmas Market. I am all about shiny things and especially turquoise. Gooooooosh, do I love that color. Doesn't matter what it is - shirt, watch, bracelet, necklace. Gimme.

I also decided I need one of these one day. Or I need to figure out how to add some sparkle to one myself.

Though our feet were starting to hurt, we troopers don't give in. Smiles all around!

Want to see the rewards of my shopping venture? There's actually only two things I can share since one of the items I bought, which is super cute, will be a Christmas gift for someone and I don't want to spoil the surprise!

First up was this gem-of-a-necklace and matching earrings set, which I love:

It's the perfect accessory for a plain black or gray tee.

Shiny baubles? Yes, please!
Then I also finally caved and bought one of those rubbery watches that everyone is crazy about right now. (I used to have a white one, but the rubber got dirty and doesn't come clean very easily.) The time-tellers come in any color you want - including turquoise - but I stayed strong and chose a dark navy to complement a wider variety of outfits. I love big, glitzy watches!

Let me consult my sparkling wristwatch for the time...

All in all, it was a really fun outing and we took home so many ideas for some creative crafts in the future that I can't wait to share with you all. Until then... happy holidays!

  1. They have some watches at Sam Moon like that for $10 if you have a chance to stop by while you are in town. I bought one in a few different colors a while back and everyone loves them!
